Mountain Columbine - Alpine Perennial, Blue-White Flowers, Zones 3-8
Alpine Beauty for the Garden
Mountain Columbine (Aquilegia alpina) is a stunning alpine species native to the mountain meadows of the European Alps, prized for its large, vivid blue-violet flowers with distinctive long spurs. One of the showiest columbines available, it produces blooms in mid-to-late spring that attract hummingbirds, bumblebees, and long-tongued native bees. The flowers make excellent spring cut flower arrangements.
Plants thrive in part shade with good drainage — ideal for rock gardens, woodland edges, and shaded borders. Like all columbines, they self-seed gently once established, naturalizing over time without becoming invasive.
