Cuttings

Hardy Kiwi Stem Cuttings are plant cuttings without roots. Cuttings will be about pencil width and 4-6" long.

If you are looking for something specific, green wood, brown wood, or a size, please let us know.

Our Kiwis are dormant December-March.  Have green wood till May, semi-hardwood May-November.

Customers grow plants from these cuttings using growth hormones and misting techniques. These techniques require experience and equipment, and there is no guarantee that 100% of the cuttings will root.  We have the best success propagating these in mid-Feb or May-August (we are in Maryland).  If you have never propagated from cuttings before, this is not the right place to start.    If you want a guide to get started, we have one available to get an idea of the process: look up the Hardy Kiwi Propagation Guide by Steep Hill Garden.  There are many other resources online as well.

Please have a plan for what you will do with the cuttings.  If you would like to grow them into plants, please have a plan for how to do this.   Note cuttings are not guaranteed to root, and rooting depends on your propagation techniques.  Cuttings cannot be stuck in the group and magically grow roots in most situations.  Contact us if you would like to purchase a consultation session to learn how to propagate or identify what may be going wrong.

Hardy kiwis have smooth skin (no hair) and are smaller, sweeter versions of the typical grocery store kiwi. The entire fruit can be eaten and does not need to be peeled.

Kiwis should be planted against a sturdy arbor or fence, with guide wires to train the vines.

Plants need full sun (with some partial shade, the vines will also fruit). Space plants 12'-15' (feet) apart. Plants bloom in the spring; fruit is ripe in the fall. Fruit is sweet when it starts to soften. When the first fruits soften, they can be picked and stored in the refrigerator for several months.

Vines grow very fast and are cold-hardy to -20 degrees F. At maturity, they will produce a very large amount of fruit.

Hardy Kiwi vines are pest and disease-free.  Very easy to grow organically.

Anna is the female variety, and Meader is the male variety. Female plants set fruit. A male plant is needed to pollinate female plants.  One male plant can pollinate up to six female plants.

Cannot ship to locations below 40°F or above 85°F.

Cuttings are guaranteed to be healthy upon delivery. If you have a question or issue with the plant upon delivery, please message us and include a photo so we can address it. Things can happen during shipments that no one can control, but we insure all plants for these issues. After a healthy cutting is delivered, we are happy to answer questions, but we cannot be held responsible for the care a cutting receives.
