The Original Johnny Jump Up — Not a Pansy

Viola tricolor, the true Johnny Jump Up, is a charming heirloom wildflower with small, dainty tri-colored flowers in purple, yellow, and white. These are the real thing — not the large-flowered pansies bred to resemble them. They naturalize beautifully under trees, in rock gardens, and in mass plantings, and will self-seed to return year after year.

Growing Conditions

• Light: Part sun to part shade
• Hardiness zones: 3–8 as perennial; annual in other zones
• Mature height: 4–12 inches
• Spread: ~1 foot
• Bloom time: Spring and fall (cut back in summer to encourage fall rebloom)
