Maypops are a native passionflower to much of the eastern United States (PA and south). Hardy to zone 6.
Beautiful flowers, which pollinators love.
Vines produce egg-shaped fruit with edible seeds, usually ripe in the fall. Pulp tastes much like Hawaiian Punch. Plant in a large pot to keep the plant contained (plants will spread through underground runners).
Germinating Seeds: Seeds need heat and dark to germinate. Soak seeds for 48 hours. Cold-moist stratify for 60 days then plant. Expect 50% germination at 85 degrees F, much better at 95 degrees F. At this point, seeds can take from 10 days to a few months to germinate.
