Scientific name: Hydrangea quercifolia

Native Oakleaf Hydrangea Shrub from Seed

Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) is a southeastern U.S. native shrub with cone-shaped flower clusters, distinctive oak-shaped leaves, colorful fall foliage, and exfoliating mature bark. Flowers typically begin white and may develop pink tones as they age.

Growing Conditions

  • Light: Part sun to part shade
  • Hardiness Zones: 5–9
  • Mature Height: About 6–8 feet
  • Spread: About 6–8 feet
  • Bloom: Early summer

Germination Notes

Cold-moist stratification for about 6 weeks can improve germination consistency. Surface sow the small seeds and press them gently into a moist growing medium rather than covering them deeply. Keep the medium evenly moist while germination occurs.

What You'll Receive
