Scientific name: Mentha spicata

Spearmint (Mentha Spicata) plant

Spearmint (Mentha Spicata) is native to the Balkan Peninsula and Turkey.  Spearmint has a strong flavor and fragrance that is released with simple bruising. It's the best mint variety for hot and cold drinks.   Great for Mojitos.  Mints are known to spread.  If you want to keep plants contained, plant in a container without any holes.  This pot can be buried in the ground.

Plants will be bare-root from late November through April, and in pots starting in April.  Plants in pots will be small in the spring and larger as the season progresses.

Growing Conditions
Light:          Full Sun-Part Shade
Perennial:  Zones 3-11
Height:       2 feet
Spread:      1-2 feet
Bloom:       Late Summer
Critters:     Wildlife tend not to browse

Plants can be shipped in winter bare-root and dormant (not in soil) from December through March in zones 6+.

Plants will be delivered in the listed/selected pot sizes. The mature plants shown in the pictures are significantly larger than the 2.5"-3.5" pots in which we ship plants. Some plants will flower in these pots, but most do not. Plants flower when they naturally flower for the period they naturally flower. Most flowers do not bloom year-round.

Plants are guaranteed to be healthy upon delivery. If you have a question or issue with the plant upon delivery, please message us and include a photo so we can address it. Things can happen during shipments that no one can control, but we insure all plants for these issues. After a healthy plant is delivered, we are happy to answer questions, but we cannot be held responsible for the care a plant receives.

Shipping

Orders generally ship within 1 business day. Preorders and seasonal items ship according to the timing listed in the product description or selected option. Extreme heat or cold may delay shipment.

Plants are carefully packed and shipped from Maryland. Shipping is subject to weather conditions and agricultural restrictions at the destination.

California shipping: Plants ship bare-root only, with all soil and growing media removed, when suitable for the plant and season. Please contact us before ordering to confirm availability and destination requirements.

We cannot ship plants in soil to Alabama, Arkansas, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Oregon, or Mississippi. Bare-root plants may be shipped to these states, subject to applicable agricultural restrictions.

Shipping temperatures: The ideal temperature range for shipping plants is 40°F–85°F. Outside this range, plants can freeze or overheat in transit, whether near your destination or along the shipping route. Temperature extremes are the leading cause of plant losses during shipping. We take precautions on our end, but if you expect extreme heat or cold in your area, please ask us to hold your shipment until conditions improve.
