Native Mountain Beauty for the Garden

Rocky Mountain Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) is the official state flower of Colorado and one of the most elegant native wildflowers of the American West. Its distinctive blue-and-white spurred blooms appear in mid-to-late spring and are a magnet for hummingbirds, bumblebees, and long-tongued native bees. The graceful, nodding flowers also make stunning spring cut flower arrangements.

Native to Rocky Mountain meadows and woodland edges at elevations up to 11,000 feet, this columbine is exceptionally cold hardy and adapts beautifully to garden conditions across a wide range of zones. Plants self-seed gently once established, naturalizing into a lovely colony over time without becoming invasive.
