Tropical Milkweed Live Plant – Asclepias curassavica – Monarch Host & Pollinator Plant
Scientific name: Asclepias curassavica
The Monarch Butterfly's Favorite Milkweed
Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) is one of the most reliable and showy milkweeds you can grow — and one of the most important plants for monarch butterflies. Monarchs use it as both a host plant (caterpillars feed on the leaves) and a nectar source (adults feed on the flowers). The vivid red-and-orange bicolor blooms are also irresistible to hummingbirds, bees, and other pollinators.
Plants bloom prolifically from late spring through frost, making them one of the longest-blooming pollinator plants available. In zones 8-11, Tropical Milkweed is a perennial. In cooler zones, grow it as a long-blooming annual — it performs beautifully all season.
