Steep Hill Garden Wild Blue Columbine - Colorado State Flower, Native Perennial, Zones 3-9
Colorado's State Flower, Ready for Your Garden
Wild Blue Columbine (Aquilegia caerulea) is the official state flower of Colorado and one of the most beautiful native wildflowers in North America. Its distinctive blue-and-white spurred blooms appear in mid-to-late spring and are a magnet for hummingbirds, bumblebees, and long-tongued native bees. The elegant, nodding flowers also make stunning spring cut flower arrangements.
Native to Rocky Mountain meadows and woodland edges, this columbine thrives in part shade and adapts well to garden conditions across a wide range of zones. Plants self-seed gently once established, naturalizing into a lovely colony over time.
